“The leader of the opposition will probably be decided after everyone has consulted and evaluated. Still, we will see a certain turnover during these four years, a representative of one faction, then apparently others will take those positions,” commented G. Paluckas this Tuesday in the program “Delfi diena”.

He stated that he believed that at the beginning of the Seimas’ mandate, the opposition leader should become a representative of the “peasants”: “I have no doubt that the burden, responsibility or duty should fall first on the” green peasants “Apparently, they will do it because they have an acting prime minister, ministers today, so they can ensure that the opposition controls parliament more effectively.”

In the first place, that burden, responsibility or duty must fall on the “green peasants.”

But at the same time, the president of the LSDP considered that the prime minister “peasant” Saulius Skvernelis might not want to assume the position of leader of the opposition.

“The prime minister, my head, has been very tired in the last four years, maybe he wants to rest, maybe he will pass the baton on to someone else. But it is already a matter of consensus of the opposition, ”said the elected member of Seimas.

If the Lithuanian Christian National Democratic Union, the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party form a ruling majority, the LSDP, the Labor Party and the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens will continue to oppose the new Seimas.

According to the Statute of the Seimas, if an opposition faction or its coalition has more than half of the Seimas members belonging to a minority of the Seimas, the largest of that faction or the leader of the coalition is called the opposition leader of the Seimas. Seimas.

The leader of the opposition enjoys the additional rights provided in the statute, for example, when an issue is discussed, he can speak once consecutively in a debate belonging to the Board of the Seimas.

The leader of the opposition was also rotated during the term of the Seimas.
