“I will demand recourse to recoup the losses of the responsible officials in a regressive way,” said S. Gentvilas in the Labor Party faction of the Seimas this week.

He stressed that the municipality of Neringa is the only one where construction permits are issued not by its administration, but by the Ministry of the Environment with the Construction Inspection.

“That is why, as a ministry, we take responsibility. Definitely, Neringa is not at fault,” S. Gentvilas told parliamentarians.

According to her, the building permits were issued without her due coordination with some special plans.

“They were treated as optional. So it is said that the building permit meets all the conditions, and that in some special plans it was not allowed, only the court saw it, ”explained S. Gentvilas.

He later told BNS that he would sign a compensation order when the damage suffered by the businessmen as a result of the demolished buildings became known. According to him, the culprits who signed the construction permits must be identified by the Construction Inspection, the Protected Areas Service and the Department of Environmental Protection.

“I have three institutions that will have to assess the situation, identify the culprits and initiate the recovery of resources,” Gentville told BNS.

However, he also acknowledged that only a small portion of the losses would be recovered from the signatory officials.

“The losses for the state will be in the millions and the recovery ceiling will be only a few thousand. Preliminarily, this regression is up to nine months of salary,” the minister explained.

The owners of Nida Seklyčia, located in Nida near the yacht and marina, began demolishing some of the buildings this week, which were expanded during reconstruction and later declared illegal. Later he plans to go to court to sue the state for damages; it is tentatively estimated at 2.5 million. euros.

According to the minister, the possibility of a peaceful agreement with the owners of the properties declared illegal was not maintained after the interpretation of the Constitutional Court.

Permits for the reconstruction of Nida Seklyčia were issued in 2004 and declared illegal eight years later. In 2016, the court ordered the building manager to demolish them in one year. The courts took another two years to clarify that the demolition should be done by the owner.
