Gabriel Landsbergis – on red lines and closed-door talks: I do not rule out the possibility of a broader coalition

“I envision the future coalition as a ‘Coalition for Cohesion’ – to seek more consensus for a new political culture, (…) so our (electoral) program focused not so much on what is strictly conservative, but on what we could persuade. and other colleagues to come and discuss it, and maybe get the job done, “said G. Landsbergis.

According to the party leader, a wide range of political forces could participate in the future “Cohesion of Cohesion”.

“Clearly, our natural partners are liberals, the new Freedom Party, but I do not rule out the possibility of a broader coalition,” Landsberg said.

When asked if it could be the Social Democrats, the TS-LKD leader replied that this is the most important question for them.

“They are outraged, at least publicly, that they don’t see an opportunity for any coalition, and we’re talking a little behind closed doors,” Landsbergis said.

In general, according to the TS-LKD president, it is too early to consider with which parties a coalition could be formed after the elections, because it is not clear which people from those parties will be elected to the Seimas.

“If we see what these people are like, if they want consensus, if they want harmony, we could negotiate with a wide range of political forces,” Landsberg said.

The president of the “Red Lines” party would turn to the political forces “who do not want consensus, who do not want to strengthen the state, but who want to divide and gain more power through division.”

You are also aware of your personal responsibility for the outcome of the election.

The TS-LKD election list will not be chaired by the party president, but by former finance minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who does not belong to the party.

According to Mr. Landsberg, the question of why this is the case is very old and long overdue.

“It seems to me that the result of I. Šimonytė during the presidential elections demonstrated that he is a person capable of doing what we are talking about in our program: seeking greater harmony with a wider range of voters and participants in the political field.” That was achieved during the elections, and that electoral result, despite the victory that was not achieved, was very successful as a right-wing politician. A similar wave is likely to be salvaged, “said G. Landsbergis.

The politician claims to be aware of his personal responsibility for the outcome of the elections.

“I think that in democratic parties, in a democratic state, elections are an important test for party leadership. This is normal and completely understandable. Also in our party, the election of the President is scheduled immediately after the elections of Seimas, “said G. Landsbergis.

What should be done in case of electoral failure is not a direct response from the politician.

“Look, let me try to form a coalition again,” Landsberg said.
