“The President participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at sea and honored the people who did not return from the sea by sailing on the naval ship” Kuršis “, who sacrificed their lives glorifying Lithuania, laying the foundations of the maritime state, nurturing and creating the country’s maritime history. This ceremony is one of the oldest traditions of the Sea Festival, born in the interwar period, “the report read.

During the flight, the ceremony was also honored by fighters from the German and Spanish Air Forces and the Royal United Kingdom Air Force conducting the NATO Air Surveillance Mission in Lithuania.

According to the Presidency, the President also visited Klaipeda University’s “Brabander” sailboat, which is the largest traditional-style floating sailboat in the country.

“The sailboat is equipped with modern navigation equipment: it carries out scientific research activities, educational navigation, underwater archaeological research work and represents Lithuania in international regattas,” says the report.

While visiting the yacht Ambersail 2, which returned to his hometown for a short time, the President became familiar with the management of this yacht and heard about the conditions in which the sailors live there during long ocean voyages.

According to the Presidency, the President wanted the Ambersail 2 crew to start successfully in the future by carrying the Lithuanian flag with honor in upcoming races.
