The second day of the summit focused on EU-Africa relations, the situation in Belarus and sanctions against Russia after the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navaln. During the discussion, the leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen strategic relations with Africa in trade, investment promotion and other areas, as well as to show solidarity in facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the development and distribution of vaccines.

European leaders expressed their solidarity with Lithuania and Poland over Belarus’ retaliation and condemned the continued violence against peaceful protesters.

“All the leaders of the European Union are united to take measures to promote democratic change in Belarus. These measures include both sanctions and support for Belarusian society. We are also ready to actively participate in the elaboration of a program aimed at strengthening the economy. of the country before a change of leader of the country ”, revealed the President.

The Lithuanian leader also recalled that the Belarusian regime had announced an international search for the President of Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

“This is further proof that the regime continues its campaign of repression against the Belarusian opposition leaders. We cannot allow such actions to restrict their international travel. Our borders must be open to Sviatlan Cichanouskaya. I appeal to colleagues from the European Union and its ministers to take all the necessary measures to guarantee that the person is not persecuted for political reasons ”, urged G. Nausėda.

In a discussion about sanctions against Russia after the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navaln, the head of state stressed that this could not have happened without the knowledge of the Kremlin.

“This is clearly demonstrated by the stoppage of medical assistance, the lack of information to relatives, obstacles to the transfer of Alexei Navaln to Berlin and other signs. The situation in which human poisoning is becoming a common practice it is no longer tolerable ”, G. Nausėda presented the situation to European leaders.

The Russian opponent himself has reported that Putin personally ordered the assassination of A. Navalna.

“I claim that the crime was commissioned by Putin, I have no other versions,” Navaln told the German magazine Der Spiegel.
