“If the association becomes equal to the family, the question is: then who needs to form a family on the basis of marriage, if the content is basically exactly the same as that of the association,” said G. Nausėda.
G. Nausėda: our Constitution corresponds to the realities of today
The President pointed out that until now, the Association Law had been in the drawer for many years and, until there was a need to put it on the political agenda, the importance of association had hardly been discussed.
“Today, they are inspired by certain decisions and initiatives. And because these are issues that choose a very broad sector of society, today everyone talks about it. And it is very good that philosophers are becoming popular, perhaps even the most popular.
Because the worst thing for me was when we lived without any discussion for a decade, we had what I called in my annual report “Ministry of Truth”, – said G. Nausėda.
The head of state explained that the “Ministry of Truth” are certain commentators who claim to have the right to the absolute truth, and everyone else “must remain somewhere on the sidelines.”
“Today we have a certain polyphony in public life, we have very different opinions. And then a person looking for answers to those hard-to-answer questions can look to their followers. And perhaps thus, through the communion of ideas, we are gradually advancing towards social cohesion.
Perhaps it sounds naive today, you will tell us what the social cohesion is here if we win the boxes today. But perhaps through this intellectual discussion and the opportunity to express ourselves in it, are we still on the right track? The president asked.
Speaking of the Corporations Law, he continued to emphasize the Constitution. According to G. Nausėda, if we ask ourselves what a family is, we should also ask ourselves whether the Constitution is really important if we interpret what is written in it in our own way.
“That is what I am asking, and is the Constitution important? Perhaps the Constitution is not very important, we can turn it into a kind of commercial document in which one of the articles is interpreted as an asterisk at the end of the text, where it is explained: fourth, fifth “.
But the Constitution is a document that should be without footnotes with asterisks. These are clearly stated things. And if the public thinks that the situation has changed today since we approved the Constitution, they should be honest with themselves and change the Constitution if they see that some provisions no longer correspond to reality, “said the President.
G.Nausėda stressed that he believed that the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania was an excellent document that corresponded to the current reality.
“In my opinion, the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania is an excellent document that corresponds to reality, although in some aspects it needs to be amended. As President of the Republic of Lithuania, in fact, I have no choice but to point the finger at Article 38 and ask others if I understand its content correctly.
They say: “No no, you do not fully understand this content, because there is an interpretation of the Constitutional Court that broadens the concept of family.” So I say, what is the meaning of the institution of marriage? ”He continued.
“The devil lies in the details”
The President regretted that it was at this point that the debate in the political arena stopped.
“And I think politicians should decide and, very honestly, first answer to themselves and then answer to society. Don’t play around with the interpretations of these games, try to get in through the back door, but answer very clearly and honestly and then raises the question of a possible amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
But I don’t think it is necessary to change that. Certain preconditions to address the problems of coexistence of people of the same sex that we really have proposals for legal solutions are even today at least some. Then the only thing left is to decide ”, he urged.
When evaluating the Corporation Law, which did not go beyond the presentation stage in the spring session of the Seimas, G. Nausėda explained that “the devil is in the details.”
“The devil is in the details. What was presented in the previous version of the law, in my opinion, already practically equates the association with the family. That is why I think it is unfair with the Constitution to try to solve it in such a by-pass way”, the President pointed out.
The Archbishop of Vilnius, Gintaras Grušas, pointed out that the family is a natural institution, which is why it is presented to the state. The archbishop said he was convinced that the family is the foundation of the state and that the wounds left by marriage do not undermine the importance of the institution of the family.
“But everything is in life and not everything is perfect in families. But we ourselves are not perfect, our politicians, our society is not perfect. When the state begins to say that something is wrong here, then we start to drive for the parents, not only does the tension arise, but there have also been many injuries: divorce, abandoned children.
All those injuries do not detract from the importance of the family institute, ”he said.
Can’t you do without a state definition of family?
Philosopher Alvydas Jokubaitis was surprised by the desire of the LGBT community to establish their way of life with state aid.
“It just came to our notice then. I understand that your rights, like everyone else, must be guaranteed. But for some form of life that you are now creating and that you are seeking, you definitely want to anchor it with state aid. Are there any questions here about What do they want to call themselves? Imagine, for 2000 years, Catholics nurtured this way of life with varying degrees of success and failure, even the Constitution had written it.
And now someone is starting to establish a competitive form with state aid. Catholics in this situation are more liberal than those who call themselves liberal. Be in society, nurture those forms if necessary, but don’t call it family ”, said the philosopher.
G.Nausėda added that Lithuania will probably not succeed without a “state definition of family”.
“Otherwise, it may be that the most important thing for Catholics is to marry before God. And the state blessing, in fact, they no longer need. That’s what the LGBT community can say: let’s bring our marriages into our social bubble and we will remain calm and not interfere anywhere.
But for that, we have a Constitution, a State, a civil society, in which we must somehow agree on the concept of the state family. And it is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
When, in terms of living conditions, it is said that these homogeneous living conditions must be legitimized by amendments to the Civil Code, let’s say wait, you want to entangle our love in a legal construction and enter into joint venture agreements.
That is my answer and it is: dear ones, whatever form you use, your love is or is not. And then it doesn’t matter at all if you live one way or another, “the president said.
Finally, he expressed his understanding of the “desire of the LGBT community to be respected, loved, recognized and, above all, to respect their love for each other.”
“And this is the result of an educational and long enough journey. But let’s accept that society changes, it gains more tolerance. And seeing other people by my side, I think they will understand that simple Christian truth: God loves everyone”, stated G. Nausėda.
