“I want to emphasize very clearly: whatever we do with that quarantine, how much we tighten it, it will not solve the problem. After the release of the quarantine screws, it is possible that the number of cases will increase again, ”said G. Nausėda in an interview on the delfi.lt portal on Wednesday.

“The only credible way, the main way to solve this problem at the macro level at the moment, is through vaccination, an ambitious vaccination plan, that’s why I keep repeating that we need to get vaccinated as soon as possible, not at the worst level. implements very quickly. With these ambitions, we can really achieve that result: 70%. vaccination of adults in mid-summer, ”said the president.

G.Nausėda says that skeptical expert assessments of her ambitious plan are changing.

“That is what they said yesterday, they already say today that it is possible, tomorrow they will say that it is a rather unambitious term,” said the head of state.

At the same time, he stressed that quarantine is necessary, because until herd immunity is acquired in Lithuania, “we will have an outbreak of massive cases.”

Therefore, during this transition period, which can last several more months, restrictions will undoubtedly be necessary, commercial interests will have to be evaluated, because the complex is much more complex, there are commercial and economic interests, the desire of the people . have a job, “said the head of the country.

He hopes vaccines will improve and be effective against coronavirus mutations, but called for “what can we do” today. G. Nausėda urges to be prepared to accept larger quantities of vaccines by planning the approval of new manufacturers’ preparations and preparing for faster vaccination rates “so there are no warehouses and no stocks.”

According to him, part of the population succumbs to misinformation about the reliability of COVID-19 vaccines, at the same time that he sees Russia’s desire to show its Sputnik vaccine as the best.

“Let’s see what Russia is doing, for example, by promoting the Sputnik vaccine in those countries that are on its border, saying that it is the best vaccine, knowing that they currently have no or very limited access to other vaccines. And at the same time, a veil of misinformation is spreading that, behold, those vaccines that are currently used are not reliable, that they have bad consequences. It is our people who listen to it, appreciate it and perhaps some of them succumb to this misinformation, ”said G. Nausėda.
