N. Grunskienė has headed the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office since 2013, has 28 years of experience as a prosecutor, including more than 10 years in the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division.
According to the Presidency, the prosecutor participated in the investigation of several high-profile cases, supported state accusations in the persecution of organized criminal groups, and later specialized in human trafficking cases.
Currently, the Attorney General’s Office is headed by Evaldas Pašilis. His term ends on December 29.
The Presidency also emphasizes that N. Grunskienė has received awards “for successful investigation of very complex cases” and other evaluations and thanks for “professional and responsible work”, in 2013 she was elected “Prosecutor of the Year”.
“I was very impressed with how the prosecutor N. Grunskienė knows the prosecution system and how she is determined to make good changes in it. I hope that after the Seimas approves his candidacy, N. Grunskienė will successfully implement his vision, ”says G. Nausėda in a press release.
According to the Presidency, the Head of State raises the expectations of the new Attorney General’s Office with high professional competence, resistance to political influence and “high standards of transparency in decision-making in the field of internal administration.
There is also a requirement that the Attorney General actively participate in the legislative process, to lead the process with the pre-trial investigation institutions;
The President also hopes that the future direction of the Office of the Prosecutor will take steps to strengthen the prestige of the tax profession, systematically evaluate internal control and risk assessment mechanisms, especially in resonance investigations, and communicate such investigations more effectively.
In an interview with BNS in September, G. Nausėda hinted that he would likely seek a new candidate for the position of Attorney General.

Pašilis ran for the judges of the General Court of the European Union, was selected among six candidates by the commission of the outgoing Minister of Justice Elvinas Jankevičius, but the president rejected the candidacy of E. Pašilis a month ago. G.Nausėda then emphasized that the candidacy of E.Pašilis did not meet the requirements for the position, and the transparency of the selection process also put this into question.
According to the Constitution, the Attorney General is appointed and removed by the President with the approval of the Seimas.
