Alytus PGT fire and rescue forces were dispatched to the scene.
As reported by AlytusPlius.lt by the chief inspector of the Alytus Fire and Rescue Service, Povilas Armanavičius, the situation could end in tragedy, but the lives of two children were saved.
Firefighters involved in the rescue operation said that around 4 pm a group of children walked around Snaigė pond, and the two bravest decided to test the strength of the ice. When they broke down, the rest of the shore immediately ran onto the road and stopped the passing car. An unknown man rescued a 13-year-old boy and firefighters were called in to help the 10-year-old boy.
“It took a decade for firefighters to come to the rescue and lifebuoys were submerged in the water. He was very cold, as if he had no signs of life. Firefighters performed cardiac massages, artificial respiration, the boy recovered and began to speak incoherently. Upon reaching the ambulance, handed over to medical hands. All of this could have ended in tragedy, fortunately, a civilian emerged. The firefighters also managed to save the boy within a decade, ”said Chief Inspector P. Armanavičius.
