“Based on the material provided by the State Security Committee (KGB) and the Ministry of the Interior, the Attorney General’s Office filed a lawsuit against S. Cichanouskaya and members of the so-called BYPOL initiative to prepare an organized group for a terrorist act … “, – the state news agency BelTA quoted Attorney General Andrejs Švedas.

According to him, the conspirators planned to accuse the Belarusian authorities of actions that endangered human lives.
“I will point out that thanks to the coordinated work of the special units of the KGB and the Ministry of the Interior, it has been possible to identify and eliminate a serious terrorist threat on the ground,” said the attorney general.
A proposal to initiate a preliminary investigation into the matter was submitted to the KGB Board of Inquiry. The Attorney General’s Office also ordered the KGB to immediately announce the international search for the suspects and submit requests to the Lithuanian and Polish authorities for their extradition.
Belarus has been plagued by massive protests for several months against the results of the presidential elections on August 9, which were declared the winners by Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994.
Her opponents say the election was rigged and that the real winner is political rookie S. Cichanouskaya, who ran in place of her incarcerated husband.
Belarusian security forces have cracked down on the protesters, detained them and forced opposition leaders to flee the country.
The protesters are demanding the resignation of Lukashenko, the release of political prisoners and new elections.
But the protest movement was gradually repressed, with mass arrests. Hundreds of them allege that the detainees were tortured.
Opposition opponents, who have withdrawn from law enforcement and other power structures, have launched the BYPOL initiative to uncover human rights abuses and law enforcement abuses in Belarus.
Earlier this month, the Attorney General’s Office announced that it had prosecuted several former members of the forces who went abroad in connection with the BYPOL initiative, accusing them of inciting “social discord.”
Cichanouskaya called the press service a “memu” in the latest report from the Attorney General’s Office on the criminal case against the opposition.

In September, Belarusian state media reported that a recording of an intercepted telephone conversation “between Warsaw and Berlin” recorded the voices of men speaking in English about the situation in Belarus after the presidential elections.
