France warns its citizens in Muslim countries

The French Foreign Ministry published new security instructions for its citizens in Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mauritania, Iraq and Turkey on its website on Tuesday. The French are advised to distance themselves from protests against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad and to avoid public gatherings. “We recommend that you take special care when traveling and in places visited by tourists or expat communities,” the statement said.

The teacher Samuel Paty was attacked in mid-October in a Paris suburb by an alleged Islamist who cut off his head. An 18-year-old suspect with Chechen roots was shot by police. According to the investigation, the teacher was killed because he showed cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad while speaking about freedom of opinion during the lesson.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced after his assassination that he will step up measures against conservative Islam, which threatens French values. Later, a number of Muslim countries strongly criticized the French government because, according to Macron, the cartoons could continue to be published. One of the most famous critics was Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
