Piraeus basketball players fell in the Greek derby for the fourth time in a row and pulled away from the playoffs.
Lithuanian referee Gytis Vilius judged “Taikjos ir draugystės” in the empty stadium.
Olympiakos won the first match in Athens at 79:71. This is the only Greek derby this season, as the Piraeus club left the Greek Federation two years ago and does not participate in the local cups.
Panathinaikos, who stand out as tall players, showed a good fight for the balls, winning 10 points in the first half and 38:35 ahead two quarters later.
Konstantinos Mitoglou sailed well above the opponents by heading off a corner kick from Athens after 35 minutes of play. With 40 seconds to go, Kostas Sloukas hit two points and cut the hosts’ deficit to 5 points, but K. Mitoglou, who responded with a bet, resolved the fate of the duel.
Odedo Kattash’s students took a total of 38 balls, while Olympiakos took 19.
The hosts made just 11 free throws of 19 (57.9 percent), and Panathinaikos scored all 25 free throws.
Olympiacos: Shaquielle McKissic 20, Hassan Martin 11, Costa Sloukas 9.
Panathinaikos: Howard Sant-Roos 20 (4/6 trit.), Lefter Bochoridis and Konstantin Mitoglou (6 vols.) – 15, Aaron White 12 (vol. 7), Ben Bentil 10.
