The police department announced early on Twitter on Twitter that officers had been rushed to the hospital for injuries believed to be not life-threatening. It is unclear who shot them.

Chaos in St. Louis erupted when protests began in Missouri on Monday over the death of the black George Floyd and the police treatment of African-Americans. Protests were also held in Kansas City and Jefferson City.

On Monday afternoon, several hundred people gathered for a peaceful protest at the St. Louis Justice Center. Among them were Mayor Lyda Krewson and St. Louis Director of Public Safety Jimmie Edwards.

Later Monday, protesters gathered at police headquarters, where officers used tear gas. Some protesters broke the windows of a store in the city center, stole goods stored inside and set fire to the building.
