According to the minister, accurate data on the situation of automobile pollution on the city’s streets will allow creating a more adequate legal regulation. The indicators collected in Vilnius will be used for further data analysis, to assess the pollution of the vehicle in real driving conditions, taking into account its technical parameters, such as its age, fuel type and category.

The televigilance contractor of the Ministry of the Environment plans to carry out the UAB Fima contractor in the capital at the end of the summer.

After evaluating the results of the pilot project, consideration will be given to remote pollution monitoring in Lithuania on a regular basis to identify polluting vehicles in the country and inform their owners about the status of such vehicles by encouraging them to clean.

The European Commission supports and promotes remote sensing of automobile pollution. Transport pollution is measured remotely in Sweden, Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, the United States, Germany, and elsewhere.

In the last week of June, during the environmental campaign in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai, after inspecting almost 200 cars in the traditional way, the amount of pollutants in almost a tenth of the cars exceeded the allowed limits.
