The new procedure, which was approved by the Akmenė District Council, did not go unnoticed: a doctor from Vilnius had already come to see the working and living conditions.
“We had no choice: the problem with the doctors was long overdue.” Today we are like a fire: we would immediately hire two family doctors and two therapists, ”Vitalijus Mitrofanovas, mayor of Akmenė district told Lietuvos Rytas.
It is true that the financial support will not be paid by the municipality, but by the employer who has entered into an employment contract with the selected doctor and has agreed on the salary.
The incoming physician support model has already been developed and has been in operation for several years.
This program helped attract several doctors to Naujoji Akmenė, but the 15-20 thousand euros offered or housing did not overshadow the doctors’ desire to work in the big cities.
The new procedure approved by the Akmenė District Council is much more attractive.
Now a doctor who has bought a home and settled in the district can receive up to 60 thousand euros. For this money, the doctor agrees to work full time for 5 years in a primary care center or hospital.
If the doctor’s workload is less, the benefit is reduced accordingly. A young specialist can also apply for a residency grant.
This support can reach up to 35 thousand euros. In addition, it is possible to pay up to 150 euros per month in compensation for fuel or rent.
The news about the seduction of the Akmenė district government caused a considerable storm among the already working doctors.
There has been speculation about whether the doctors will try to outwit: quit their job, register in another district, and then try to return and make a profit.
Mayor V. Mitrofanov acknowledged that there are real fears: “However, the doctors who are working now must not forget that they have received official accommodation.
We have provided fuses, and not one – you can request support only once and the doctor must work full time. “
The mayor said news of the profit increase had already spread: a doctor had arrived from the capital over the weekend.
The teen parenting specialist was interested in providing real estate, working conditions, and non-formal education for students.
There are few young doctors
At the end of last year, 44 doctors were working in public and private medical institutions of Akmenė District Municipality.
There is a minority of young professionals: only four doctors under the age of 35.
The majority are doctors of retirement age: 17 are over 65 years of age. Fifteen more doctors are between 55 and 64 years old.
