The politician claims that the Lithuanian head of diplomacy unreasonably insulted him when he commented on his public appeal to the Seimas members, calling for the unification and protection of traditional values.
According to the Delfi portal, G. Landsbergis urged R. Karbauskis to start his own family before trying to protect Lithuanian families.
“The first thing I would recommend to the undersigned is to start and take care of my family first, and then see what can be done to help others,” Delfi said, according to G. Knowberg on Knowledge Radio.
“If I reacted to the statement of Gabriel Landsbergis as Foreign Minister, it is very disappointing, if I reacted to his statement as chairman of the Conservative Party, it is even more disappointing. However, if I had to respond to the statement of Gabriel Landsberg as a person “It’s not uncommon for me. For the past four years, I’ve heard constant comments about myself. They were at a level of intimidation.”

For her part, G. Landsbergis’ spokeswoman, Vytautė Šmaižytė, stated that the Foreign Minister did not really want to offend R. Karbauskis. According to her, in the radio broadcast G. Landsbergis spoke in general, not about the leader of the “peasants.”

However, R. Karbauskis is not only concerned about G. Landsbergis’ comments. The “peasant” is also suspicious of the conservative leader’s view that law enforcement should follow the heated debate on the Istanbul Convention or the Association Law.
ELTA recalls that Landsbergis pointed out on Tuesday after the meeting with the president that it is necessary to assess the fact that both defenders of the position on the Istanbul Convention have received inside information or even threats in the public sphere. So, the foreign minister said, law enforcement must follow the debate, which often includes threats.
“Personalities concern me. Sometimes they turn into a threatening tone. So it really should stop. In some cases (ELTA could do that) maybe law enforcement. We must not allow the debate to escalate into a civil war, “Landsberg told reporters on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Karbauskis saw in Landsberg’s fears a warning for those who oppose ratification of the Istanbul Convention. According to the prime minister in the shadow of “peasants”, there is no reason to calm the discussion at all, because it is not bad, emphasize politicians.
“Such conversations about the intervention of the police authorities are an attempt to silence the discussion, the discussion is never bad,” said R. Karbauskis.

“If there is a crime, the police must investigate and respond to the crimes, even without political calls. So I react to Landsberg’s statement as an attempt to tell the public: shut up, because your conversations will soon be judged by the police,” R. Karbauskis said.
