Data collected by FNTT officials reveals that a person living in Telšiai, who has not officially registered his activities, engaged in the sale of a certain brand of American automobiles several years ago. After buying the broken cars from American auctions, the person transported them to Lithuania with the help of two companies operating in the port city, which also deal with the cars.
Upon arrival of the cargo, the defendant organized the repair of the vehicles and prepared them for operation, and sold the repaired vehicles through advertisements on the most popular online car trading portals or in other ways.
The authorities estimate that in a year and a half the defendants sold 31 cars and received more than 142,000. income in euros.
In order to conceal his illegal income and the scale of his activities, the defendant set out to instruct car buyers to transfer money to the bank accounts of his spouse, child or friend. The money was later withdrawn or used to pay for newly purchased cars from American dealers.
The illegal seller is accused of engaging in large-scale illegal economic and commercial activities. The pre-trial investigation was supervised by the prosecutor of the 2nd Prosecution Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office. After the prosecution had drawn up the indictment, the case was transferred to the Telšiai Chamber of the Telšiai District Court. The civil claim in this case was presented by the State Tax Inspection, the amount of the claim exceeded 21 thousand. euros.
Large-scale participation in economic or commercial activities without a permit is punishable by the most severe prison sentence of up to four years.
FNTT constantly monitors the used car trading market. This is not the first time that merchants who do not have permits for this activity or who hide taxes from the state have fallen into the hands of officials.
