In the first episode, the migrants break through the bottom of a protective fence on the Belarusian side and cross the border into Lithuania on all fours. They are believed to be roaring in hopes that border surveillance video systems won’t realize that cameras won’t “catch” them. The migrants are also believed to be hoping that the Druskininkai border guards will mistake the traces they have left for the beasts.

In the second episode, a group of 32 illegal immigrants crosses the border into Lithuania in the municipality of Druskininkai, which is also captured in the photo at the end of the video.

Due to the situation on the border with Belarus, a meeting of the Government Emergency Commission (CECA) will be convened to decide on the declaration of the state of emergency, says Deputy Interior Minister Vitaly Dmitryev.

“At the Interior Ministry, we have decided that a WEU meeting is needed,” the deputy minister told reporters on Friday.

WEU is preparing to meet on Friday or Monday.

“The extreme situation in itself does not address this issue, it is addressed through inter-institutional cooperation and coordination. The introduction or no introduction is a legal concept and a legal regime, which in this case would help the Interior Ministry to handle the situation by involving municipalities and other institutions as necessary, ”said V. Dmitrijev.

When the State Border Guard Service asked him to declare an emergency situation due to migratory flows, the vice minister said that the status in itself does not solve the challenges posed by migration, but it would help the Ministry to manage the situation.

“The problem is being solved through inter-agency cooperation and coordination,” Dmitrijev said.

Last day, border guards detained 150 illegal immigrants, nearly three times the previous daily record.

A total of 822 illegal immigrants from Belarus tried to enter Lithuania this year, ten times more than during all of 2020.
