On social media, drivers have been sharing information about traffic accidents on the road since the morning, as well as places where passing can be extremely difficult due to boiled trees and branches.

Here in the capital, on the way up Green Lakes Street towards Balsiai, not only did trees fall on the road, but many branches were also broken. A similar situation occurred while driving from the General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy to Rokantiškės.
In the southeastern part of Vilnius, while traveling on the Black Road, many fallen trees were also noticed.
Traffic accidents were also unavoidable: dozens of fixed events were observed in the Vilnius City Driver Information System. Admittedly, these incidents are technical, so road users have avoided serious injury, at least for now.
And in Kaunas on Tuesday afternoon, Kaunas residents reported that the Šilainiai road is impassable – a power pole fell into the road here.
However, one of the biggest traffic accidents happened on the A1 highway: Vilnius County Police Spokesperson Julia Samorokovskaya explained that the truck struck the barriers and blocked the road, although the driver himself avoided more serious injuries. For some time on this section of the road, cars on the Kaunas side were parked in a one-kilometer traffic jam.
Shortly after eleven o’clock, the police received a report that two trucks traveling in the direction of Kaunas had collided near Vievis. No one was injured during the incident either, but traffic was disrupted.
Julija Samorokovskaja, representative of the Vilnius County Police, informed the BNS that from 7.30 in the morning until the afternoon, about 20 car complaints had been received in all districts of the county.
According to her, during most events, people did not suffer. Most of the reports were of cars entering the ditch or obstructing trees.
In one incident, around the 10th morning, a tow truck crushed a young man who was snowing from a car. Doctors took the victim, who had pain in his leg and back, to the hospital for an examination.
At approximately 2 pm, two cars collided on Ozo Street in the capital, injuring two people.
Vilnius County Police received around 60 more reports of fallen trees on the road.
“There have also been reports of broken power lines and damaged traffic signs,” Samorokovskaya said.
Kristina Janulevičienė, Alytus County Police Representative, told BNS that by the afternoon, more than 60 reports had been received in this region about events that could endanger traffic safety, 14 of which were traffic accidents. .
“They ran off the road, they hit a tree, they collided, they did not agree with the fault: technical traffic accidents in which people did not suffer,” said K. Janulevičienė.
According to her, most of the events involved are tractors and other heavy vehicles.
“They do not go out at roundabouts or get stuck when entering, those so-called ‘scissors’ pass when they block the road,” said an Alytus police representative.
The remaining reports received by the police refer to obstacles on the road, such as fallen trees or broken branches. Most of these reports were received from the forested districts of Prienai, Varėna and Druskininkai.
“Of course, we do not receive some reports, because often people, on their own, go into a ditch, pull out a car or remove obstacles,” said K. Janulevičienė.
Kaunas County Police Representative Odeta Vaitkevičienė informed BNS that seven road accidents had been reported in Kaunas County by noon.
Soothing: salt and sand roads will suffice
At the time, Egidijus Steponavičius, head of Grinda’s Marketing and Communication Department, says that there are many cases recorded and that the main focus is on priority roads.
However, E. Steponavičius assures that the necessary materials will be sufficient to guarantee road safety.

“Nobody is building up a stockpile of planned materials because it doesn’t make sense. If winter happens the same as last year, no one would need the entire stockpile. At the moment, there will be enough salt in Vilnius for the next few weeks, and the rest is done. on my way.
During the season we use around 20 thousand. tons of salt and about 18 thousand. tons of sand and salt mix. This year, we have already used about half of the seasonal rate.
This snowfall is difficult because, however, the heavy and wet snow breaks the branches of the trees, on the other hand, there is also a lot of wind. There have been no very big snowfalls in recent years, so this year we have more situations of this type.
Our cleaning priority at the moment is the main streets in the city for public transportation, some of the other streets have not yet taken their turn. If there is no need to travel somewhere and take additional risks, it would be good to refrain from unnecessary trips, “said the interlocutor.
At that time, the representatives of “Kauno švaros” also assured that currently the main focus is on the movement of public transport and the cleaning of the main roads.
Giedrė Čekavičienė, Head of the Communication Department of AB Kelių draudimo, also assured that there will be no shortage of existing materials to reduce slippage on the road.
“There is no shortage of materials to reduce slippage. We have contracts with suppliers, orders are fulfilled, salt, mixes of salt and sand travel to warehouses regularly.
Currently, there are 50 thousand. tons of salt and 23 thousand. tons of salt and sand mix. The quantity is variable, because, as I mentioned, the materials are constantly being replenished, ”he said.
The company representative also points out that since October 15 last year. until January 26 of this year. almost 50 thousand were consumed. tons of salt, 43 thousand. mixture of salt and sand, as well as almost 13 thousand. cubic meters of saline solution.
At that time, Grinda, in turn, advises, if it is not necessary, to stay at home, not to go anywhere, to plan a trip with more time, not to park cars near large trees. In similar cases, residents of the capital are encouraged to report to the abbreviated phone number 1355.
