As not all European countries have successfully curbed the coronavirus, clubs struggling in the Euroleague live in uncertainty about the possibility of free travel and budget revenue as early as the fall.
Israeli media channel Israel Hayom reports that for these reasons, several Euroleague teams are preparing to tackle priority management with a request to postpone the start of the season from October to December.
According to the representatives of the clubs, it is not yet clear how flights will be operated in Europe, nor when Russia will allow foreigners or, for example, when restrictions will be lifted to get from Israel to other countries.
It is added that teams find it difficult to plan a budget with holes if the home games are played without fans or if their number is very limited.
Probably the biggest obstacle to postponing the season is the postponed Olympic years. The Tokyo Olympics moved into the summer of 2021, at the beginning of which teams will compete for the remaining seats in the basketball tournament.
With the Euroleague season starting in December, basketball players are expected to play 34 regular-stage games, a quarterfinal series and a four-game final in just six months.
Less than two weeks ago, the Euroleague circulated 2020-2021. A projection of the season calendar, according to which the elites of the Old Continent would traditionally start the fights in early October. After the announcement, the transmission network was also established.
