EU officials have found 29 million in a vaccine factory in Italy. AstraZeneca vaccine dose. Brussels warns that it is willing to block vaccine exports if it turns out that the vaccine stocks found are destined for a non-European market.

“An inspection was carried out at the Anagni factory over the weekend, during which 29 million doses of vaccines and we are waiting to find out who these actions are for,” a French official said according to the Financial Times.

The Anagni plant in Frosinon, Italy, is controlled by Catalent, a US company that supplies vaccine materials from other AstraZeneca suppliers and manufactures the final vaccines. FT has not yet been able to obtain a comment from the company.

VŽ has already written about the fact that Europe is increasingly talking about plans to block the export of AstraZeneca vaccines. An unidentified French official, who reported that stocks were found at the factory, said the EU was not going to “continue to be an idiot to everyone in this situation.”

He says that Europe does not want to get involved in disputes with the United Kingdom (UK), which does not face vaccine supply problems, but will do everything possible to make the manufacturer meet its responsibilities.

“We do not want to argue with the United Kingdom, but we are talking about facts. Millions of doses of vaccines are being sent to the United Kingdom and the vaccines do not travel in other directions … It is true that we demand reciprocity,” the FT quotes the source .

The EU has already blocked a shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines for export, with 250,000 doses of the vaccine that the company intended to export to Australia suspended.
