The company announced its intention to lay off 266 employees in Druskininkai and 90 in Birštonas. According to Sodra, the Druskininkai Eglė Sanatorium currently employs 616 people and Birštonas Springs, managed by the Eglė Sanatorium, has 177 employees.

“We are forced to take this very difficult step to save the remaining jobs. We expected the situation to improve, but it did not happen,” Artūras Salda, director of the Eglė sanatorium, said in the report.

According to him, the employee kept the Eglė sanatorium inactive for the last six months and expected the pandemic to end, but with the start of the second wave of coronavirus, the number of new reservations decreased by 90%.

The company will mainly lay off service employees, whose workload is directly dependent on customer flows: cleaning, catering, customer registration staff, medical support staff.

The dismissal process will take place in several stages, and the last part of the workers will leave the company alone in the fight. If the situation changes, Eglė Sanatorium says the dismissal process could be stopped or the number of redundant employees could be reduced.

Employees will receive layoff alerts once a layoff list has been established.

Aistė Povilauskaitė, director of marketing and communication at Egl de Sanatorium, informed BNS that on Monday the Employment Service was informed about the intention to lay off employees.
