After cleaning the Soviet-era plaster from the facade of the old building in Priekule, the advertising notes left by the previous owners of this building were opened. The businessmen who arranged the house intend to display it as a legacy of the East Prussian Empire of that time.

Klaipėda district, Priekulė city, Žalgirio str. On February 4, the businessmen, while managing an old house, found an inscription and an old German sign – a copper table from the time of the Prussian Empire.

“The businessmen reported the finding to the district municipality, representatives of the municipality called me. We went to the place. Interestingly, something like “art gallery” was written in German at the back of the house. understands that this is something interesting and attractive, so they promised to leave those notes on the facade of the house after the reconstruction, “said heritage conservationist Laisvūnas Kavaliauskas.

Sonata Šmatauskienė, Advisor to the Division of Architecture and Spatial Planning of the Klaipėda District Municipality Administration, stated that the building owners had received all the permits for the building works.

Nobody suspected that there was something hidden under the plaster, but the businessmen showed good will and, having discovered the accents of the ancient heritage, reported the find to the municipality.

After all, when they discovered such a sign, they could not report anything, just take it and destroy it. But they did not. It is very gratifying that they realized that the discovered inscription is valuable. Although the building in which the inscriptions are found is not a cultural monument. “But it falls into the historical part of Priekulė. In addition, they themselves are interested in preserving that inscription, exhibiting it, with special lighting as an important accent of the building. A copper table will also be exhibited there,” said S. Šmatauskien .

There are quite a few old buildings in the city of Priekulė with the surviving advertising inscriptions from that time, but in this particular case nothing is known about the inscriptions existing under the Soviet plaster.

“Those notes are really valuable for the history of our Priekule. And we will try to fix, restore and preserve them,” emphasized S. Šmatauskienė.
