For several years in a row, public transport in Kaunas is undergoing a significant renovation. These days the last of a hundred modern MAN Lion’s City 12 hybrid buses purchased last year arrived in town. The Kauno autobusai company has planned even more innovations so that next year its fleet will consist of only new buses. All of this will ensure even more convenient communication and a cleaner environment in the city, and with each passing day there will be fewer arguments for traveling by car.

Kauno autobusai estimates that in March alone, half of all bus passengers received the new hybrids from the German manufacturer MAN. Buses that meet the highest quality standards consistently receive positive reviews from the Kaunas residents who drive them.

“Kaunas is a green and white city because of Žalgiris. From now on, it will be even greener thanks to the new hybrid buses. We finally have a hundred of them. It doesn’t matter that it is painted red, but with such public transport, the environment of the city will really get cleaner, said the mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis – The most important thing is that after all the quarantine threats have ended, there are no more fears, the residents of Kaunas will return and travel willingly by bus and trolley. The city will continue to make the connection as convenient as possible. We want to believe that we will not have to wait another hundred years for such a significant renovation in Kaunas. “

23.5 million MAN Lion’s City 12 model buses, which cost 1 billion euros, can be counted in Kaunas these days. The first of them arrived in Kaunas last October, and the last one was scheduled to arrive in May this year, but the representatives of the manufacturer MAN in Lithuania, the Adampolis company, shortened this deadline by more than a month.

Kauno’s current bus fleet consists of a total of 280 buses and 142 trolleybuses. Most of them, along with all the necessary infrastructure, have been significantly improved in the last 5 years. The total investment amounts to more than 65 million. euros. In addition to the 100 MANs, 56 smaller Mercedes-Benz buses and 25 Temsa LF12 and 85 Solaris trolleybuses were purchased in just a few years.

However, Kauno autobusai doesn’t tend to limit himself to that. According to the director of the company Mindaugas Grigelis, next year the goal is to raise the poster of the record age of the transport fleet to new heights: “We have won the maximum support in the climate change program: 10 million. for the purchase of 78 new gas hybrid buses. Our goal is to secure the financing of the remaining part, more than 12 million more. euros. If this ambition is realized, perhaps next year only the new buses will circulate on the streets of Kaunas. “

The quality of public transport is one of Kaunas’ priorities to strengthen the green direction of the city. Kauno Autobusai representatives are determined to increase the appeal of their services. All transportation is already low-floor, convenient and accessible for people with reduced mobility. Additionally, all passengers must travel exclusively on air-conditioned buses and trolleys this summer. At the same time, new vehicles contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and general environmental pollution in the city.
