The engine broke during training.
During the first trainings on the Palanga track on Friday morning, mechanics heard that the Porsche engine was not working as it should. Sounds like “Chioper”. After inviting Andrius Čilvinas to return to the service area just after a few wheels, he heard that only 5 of the 6 cylinders were working. Spark plugs and ignition coils were urgently inspected on site. Nothing was found, the problem was deeper: a bent valve.
The car was pushed into Juta Racing’s caretaker’s shop, where craftsmen removed the engine and performed a sort of autopsy to find out where the problem was and if it was possible to fix it.
While the engine was being dismantled, the Dynami: t Energy by Baltic Petroleum team had already coordinated other possible starting options. All these Porsche racing models in Lithuania compete in Palanga this weekend. But another one of those Porsches is in Estonia. Crew members negotiated an engine rental with the Estonian, but after lengthy negotiations, he refused to rent an engine to the team: next weekend he will have the Baltic Championship stage, and his Porsche engine has already covered many miles . Too risky.
I did not find what is necessary in the Baltic States
The mechanics discovered the problem: the Porsche engine compensator jammed and damaged the head. Teachers have been found to repair the engine, but a new compensator is needed.
The parts are in stock in the Porsche, the engine is being repaired, but it was only half a day before starting. The three Baltic countries were connected to finding the necessary components, but no one had the details for the 911 GT3 Cup sports engine. The teammates were determined to even get their plane up in the air to help, but after midnight, when there was no time to physically repair the engine, they had to drop their hands.
“I would like to publicly thank those who tried to help us. While hopes were dashed, many good people called us, offered their services, contacts, looked for the necessary parts, were determined to help them be faster. Unfortunately, we had to bury the Hopes to start the race. We thought we had broken the bottom last year. However, last year at least we went to the start, and this year we will see it from the country, “said Mantas Matukaitis.
The front will be in the hands of BMW
However, a black and yellow car will be visible on the track. The front will be carried out by the Baltic Petroleum by Piano Piano team with the BMW M3.
Powered by Aurimas Mištautas, Tadas Aganauskas, Andrius Tamulevičius and Aistė Antanaitytė Matukaitė, the BMW M3 works perfectly and does not work all weekend. Also, in Friday’s qualifying, Aurimas and Tad took him to Super Polo, the fastest TOP10 race. In it, A. Mištautas gained 7 starting positions by turning several wheels. Surprisingly, in training, the Lithuanian ring race champion ran faster than qualifying and was able to fight for fifth starting position, but the team decided not to fly in Super Polo qualification.
“It just caught our eye then. And we will be able to demonstrate something to someone during the race. They are long, over 1000 km, so the starting position, either 5 or 15, does not determine much”, – Aleksandras Dainys explained his strategy .
