On Wednesday after midnight, Druskininkai border guard officers of the SBGS Varėna border team near Latežeris village in Druskininkai municipality recorded how two people from the Belarusian side approached the border line with Lithuania in a wooded area. Soon the criminals crossed it and rushed deep into Lithuania, SBGS reports.
A search was organized with the participation of additional border guards, a Druskininkai Firebreak cynologist with the Belgian Shepherd Goru, and Druskininkai police officers were used. Shortly after a kilometer and a half from the place of the rape, within the limits of Jaskoniai village, both alleged rapists were arrested. Men have been seen to be intoxicated by alcohol.
It turns out that one of the detainees is a 25-year-old Belarusian citizen. He had his own country passport. The alien was fixed at 0.98 avg. drunkenness. The second detainee had no documents and was presented to 30 Belarusian citizens. He blew 2.19 avg into the alcohol tester.
After inspecting the area where the alleged border violators were detained, firebreak cynologist Druskininkai and Gora found nothing else suspicious.
Both detainees spent the night at the Druskininkai firewall complying with all security requirements related to the pandemic. In the morning, they applied for asylum in Lithuania. Officers from the Migration Division of the SBGS Varėna Border Team initiated the initial actions of the asylum procedure. The Department of Migration, which handles these asylum applications, has been informed.
On Wednesday, around noon, both foreigners were transferred by the Druskininkai border guards to the Raigard checkpoint, where there are special premises for asylum seekers. Detainees will be tested for COVID-19. The results of the research will address the issue of accommodation for foreigners.
The incident is under investigation.
