Drawbacks for the meat processing company: hidden taxes, falsified accounting

The meat processing company operating in Tauragė produced smoked products from raw meat: sausages, bacon and other products. The finished products were delivered to supermarkets and stores.

The FNTT, after receiving information from the Klaipėda County State Tax Inspectorate and suspecting that the company was driving fraudulently, launched a pre-trial investigation. FNTT officials, in cooperation with specialists from the State Food and Veterinary Service, during the search, established that the company states in its records that it has meat raw materials for almost 400 thousand. euros. Officials who inspected the facility did not find such a large quantity of meat.

Comparing the meat raw material actually used for production with the figures indicated in the company’s accounting documents, it became clear that there is a shortage of meat for almost 345 thousand. as well as the unpaid value added tax to the state, which amounts to almost 71 thousand. euros.

After the prosecutor of the 2nd Prosecution Division of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office, who organized and led the pre-trial investigation, drew up the indictment, the case was transferred to court.

Tax evasion by providing incorrect income data when the tax amount exceeds 750 MSL is punishable by the most severe prison sentence of up to eight years. Fraudulent accounting is severely punishable by up to four years in prison.
