ELTA recalls that in the electoral district of Utena, after the second round of the Seimas elections on Sunday, an unusual situation arose: E. Pupinis and the president of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), Gintautas Paluckas, received identical support from voters.

On Monday, the votes in the constituency were recalculated and it was announced that the mandate was won by the conservative E. Pupinis. After summarizing the final results, it was announced that 7,076 citizens voted for E. Pupinis and 7,071 for G. Paluckas in the Utena constituency.

Justas Pankauskas, vice chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, says he submitted a request to the CEC on Wednesday to recount the votes in the single-member constituency of Utena. The participation of R. Gudynienė, president of the Utena Regional Commission, in the organization of the vote counting also raises doubts about the LSDP. According to the LSDP, he is an assistant to the conservative member of the Seimas E. Pupinis, who won the elections in Utena.

On Thursday, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) decided to recount the votes in the uninominal constituency of Utena, where the Social Democratic leader Gintautas Paluckas and the conservative deputy Edmundas Pupinis competed in the Seimas elections.
