Vilnius “Rytas” head coach Donaldas Kairys wished the club’s fans would not give up hope after the first half of the season.
Fines are being issued this season
Two weeks ago, after the team’s failure in the FIBA Champions League against Riga VEF, the Rytas B Tribūna fan group publicly wrote that the coach and sporting director should take responsibility for the team’s performance, and Kairys take both positions.
“I would like not to lose hope, support the team and return to the stadiums as soon as possible. We need the support of the fans, we play for them, we want to win for them,” Kairys told Rytas club.
The coach also mentioned the team’s fans when he heard the question of whether he was communicating with the club’s management.
“It just came to our notice then. We solve our tasks, meet when necessary, communication occurs. I also understand the fans, they love basketball, their hearts are burning with basketball, they want the team to see them. climb to the top, they want to see better results. But they are fans and they should be sick for their team, and we and the club’s management will find solutions that help us stand out, “said Kairys.
In the first half of the season, Vilnius Club won 8 wins and 5 failures, and in the FIBA Champions League after four matches it has 1 win and complicated its chances of entering the second stage.
How does the manager assess the first half of the season?
“The start of the season was so fun and energetic, we all yearned for basketball, emotions flowed around the edges. It felt like a full arena. But not everything can be judged by that, it was just the beginning of the season. Some teams gained a faster pace, other teams came in later. We felt the taste of a victorious match, we did well.
I think we burned emotionally after the game with Kaunas “Žalgiris”, maybe even during them. This was in response to our next home game with Peristeri. Those two setbacks really went through us too painfully. Also, immediately after those games, we lost our leader, our player Demetrius Jackson, “said Kairys.
The next match will be played by Rytas tomorrow Wednesday, when they will face Juventus de Utena in the Copa Rey Mindaugas. The game will be broadcast on LRT television.
