The outgoing president announced it on Twitter.
A spokeswoman for the vice president of the United States told Mike Pence that he did not yet know if he would attend Biden’s inauguration.
On Wednesday, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, where members of Congress had to confirm Biden’s victory. Crowds smashed windows, invaded the Senate and House of Representatives, spread out after cabinets of legislators, including Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, arrived in meeting rooms.
The protesters clashed with police officers, killing at least four people. In the end, Biden’s victory was still confirmed.
After not acknowledging defeat for a long time and goading his supporters, Trump promised a smooth transfer of power Thursday.
He also unequivocally condemned the violence on Wednesday, saying: “Anger must subside, peace must be restored.”
“The protesters who entered the Capitol ignored the seat of American democracy. For those who have been involved in acts of violence and demolition: you do not represent our country. Those who have violated the law will respond,” Trump said.
