On Monday morning, the BNS news agency is organizing press conferences of the political parties that participated in the Seimas elections.

You can see them here:

LSDP President Gintautas Paluckas said the results of the first round of elections apparently surprised everyone.

Despite the polls, no one could have predicted the appearance of some parties in the Seimas elections. The leader of the Socdems was surprised by the results of the Freedom Party and the Labor Party.

LSDP had more expectations of results in the first round.

“Admittedly, we are happy to have twelve unique members in the second round and we are determined and willing to fight very seriously,” he said.

According to Rasa Budbergytė, the eldest of the Seimas LSDP faction, the election result is certainly not inspiring.

“But I agree with the president of our party that we have a really tough fight ahead of us for two weeks and that we will do our best to have as many single-member members of our party as possible,” he said.

During the last four years of their tenure in the Seimas, the Social Democrats, according to R.Budbergytė, have been working with determination thinking about the needs of the Lithuanian people. She denied, say, claims by “peasants” that LSDP representatives did not support socially oriented bills.

When asked if he did not plan to resign as president of the LSDP, Paluck said no.

“It just came to our notice then. We have twelve second rounds and we are seriously preparing for a very serious fight,” he said.

G. Paluckas evaluated as very good his performance in the elections in the uninominal constituency of Utena, where he entered the second round of the Seimas elections.

He confirmed that there were contacts and calls with other political parties both yesterday and today. But serious talks about what can be done, he said, will fade after the second round of elections.

After the first round of the elections, when it became clear how some seats in the new Seimas were divided, G. Paluckas explained that after the meeting of the LSDP board it will be considered which candidates to support in single-member districts where the Social Democrats did not enter to the second round.

Also, what support can you expect from center-left parties? Among those he hopes to receive support, the president of the LSDP referred to the “peasants”, the Labor Party, other parties that were seen as left, which did not exceed 5%. barrier to entry to the Seimas.

According to G. Paluck, the LSDP’s duty is to form or join the center-left coalition. He claimed that the link between the assumptions and the conservatives was invisible.

The size of the factions in the Seimas that will have political parties and the coalitions that can be formed will become clear after the second round of parliamentary elections on October 25.

When asked what led to the failure of the Social Democrats in the elections, Paluck explained that it was clear that the “electoral base of the LSDP had shifted slightly.” At the same time, he said that each election is unique: that the political system is changing, new parties are emerging and some political forces are disappearing.

However, he acknowledged that the big problem for the LSDP continues to be the big cities where they have no support, they are said to be dominated by right-wing parties.

G. Paluckas also said that some of the votes the party may have had were “taken” by social workers who had split from the LSDP. Paluck said he sees no prospects for these parties to unite.

He did not hit the “workers”

According to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Commission, 9.26 percent voted for the LSDP in the multinominal constituency. Voters who participated in the Seimas elections.

According to these results, the Social Democrats should have 8 representatives in the new parliament. As well as the electoral rookie Freedom Party.

It is true that on October 25 the voting will be repeated in single-member districts, where several representatives of the LSDP will try to enter the Seimas.

The opposition Conservatives received the most votes in the multi-member constituency, with an estimated 23 parliamentary seats.

Ingrida Šimonytė, leader of the National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania, won the first round in the single-member constituency of Antakalnis in the Seimas elections.

The ruling “peasants” won the seats of 16 Seimas members during the first round of the Seimas elections. Labor Party: 9 seats.

The Liberal Movement also crossed the Seimas barrier. According to the results of the elections in the multinominal constituency, the party will have 6 seats in the new legislature.

Other political parties that participated in the elections 5 percent. did not cross the barrier required to enter the Seimas.
