The international conference “Accessibility of information for people with disabilities” will be held on Monday June 28 at 10 am in the Column Hall of the Presidency.

The event is sponsored by the first ladies of Lithuania and Poland, Diana Nausėdienė and Agata Kornhauser-Duda. The conference partner is the Lithuanian Disability Organizations Forum.

“In order to create decent living and working conditions and equal opportunities for all members of society, we must fight for access to the right environment: infrastructure and information. This is the key to the well-being of people with disabilities. ”Says Diana Nausėdienė, the country’s first lady.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ensures that countries that have ratified the Convention seek not only physical access, but also information for persons with disabilities. Lithuania ratified the Convention in 2010, but both physical and information accessibility for people with different disabilities remains a goal.

Many of us already know and can recognize what hinders the physical environment of people with disabilities.

And what do we know about the barriers to accessing information? How can these barriers be removed by making information available in a suitable way for everyone? What decisions must we make and what steps must we take to ensure that information is accessible to people with disabilities and that we can live independently and make decisions?

The conference will learn about the access to information needs of people with disabilities and their personal experiences will be heard.

The speakers will talk about the availability of information and the importance of various forms of communication in the implementation of a disability model based on human rights; It will be possible to listen to the good examples and political orientations of Lithuania and become familiar with the Polish experience in decision-making and execution, based on the good examples of Poland.

The conference will be held in Lithuanian and Polish with simultaneous translation.

There will also be a translation into Lithuanian Sign Language.
