According to a report released Wednesday, politicians say they have called on people to peacefully protest against planned and already made decisions by the government regarding the management of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I called on the people to protest peacefully during the demonstration, against the decisions taken and planned by the Government, which contradict the decisions of the Council of Europe and violate the rights of a significant part of the Lithuanian people”, M. Puidokas is quoted saying.
“The provocations, the violence, the lack of respect or the harassment are foreign to me. I am not against vaccines, but I am against segregation, discrimination and for equality not only of duties but also of rights for all citizens ”, said A. Gedvilas.
About 5,000. On Tuesday, people gathered at an authorized rally near the Seimas in Vilnius to protest against planned government restrictions for people who do not have immunity to the coronavirus and tests are not being carried out.
Both parliamentarians, as well as other members of the Seimas in the opposition, participated and spoke in this protest.
After the Seimas session, some of the protesters blocked the exits of the parliamentary building and the exit of the inner courtyard of the Seimas. When they were taken from the building by officers, riots broke out: bottles were thrown at officers, flares were fired and tear gas was used at protesters. 18 officers were injured in the incident.
A pre-trial investigation into the riots has been launched, with 26 people arrested.
