Steny Hoyer, Democratic Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, has confirmed that Democrats intend to vote on Trump’s impeachment in the next two days: “The vote could take place on Wednesday.”
According to S. Hoyer, the objective is to pass the impeachment as soon as possible to the Senate, which will decide the fate of the outgoing Mr. Trump. It is far from clear whether two-thirds of the 100 senators would agree to overthrow the president.
Democrats have previously submitted a resolution to the House of Representatives urging Pence to seize the 25th amendment to the Constitution and remove Trump from the White House.
House Republicans have blocked an urgent vote on the resolution and Democrats, in turn, have brought an indictment against Trump for “inciting the uprising” over his role in the assault on the US Capitol on Wednesday.
The ultimatum, which threatens to undermine the future political ambitions of a single-term president, will be the frenzied culmination of four years of controversy before the inauguration of his successor, Joe Biden, on January 20.

The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives had already indicted Trump in December 2019, accusing the president of pressuring the Ukrainian leader to find politically compromising material against his rival, Biden.
Eventually, the president was acquitted in the Senate, where the Republicans held the majority.
As time runs out, Democrats are likely to get enough votes in the House of Representatives to impeach Trump again. Even some Republicans may support this measure.
Still, they are unlikely to win a two-thirds majority for Trump to be found guilty in the 100-member Senate and resign.
