According to ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets offered D’Antoni a contract extension, but the 69-year-old turned down the offer and decided to move to another team.
Several NBA clubs are interested in an experienced strategist, and he named A. Wojnarowski’s favorite “76ers” of Philadelphia, where the coach served as an assistant in 2015-2016.
D’Antoni has coached the Rockets for four seasons and has led the team to the Western Conference semifinals each year. In 2017, the strategist was named the best coach in the NBA.
In the past, the Italian has coached the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Treviso’s Benetton and the Milan Olympics.
The Rockets are beginning to look for a new coach, and Sam Cassellas and Ty Lue are considered the leading candidates to take over the club.
