Daily flight: from the UK to Lithuania: a prisoner plane

All persons transported to Lithuania were arrested in accordance with the European arrest warrant issued, had been acquitted of the ongoing pre-trial investigation or had already been sentenced to deprivation of the ship. Decisions have already been made about them this year, but extradition proceedings were halted due to the pandemic.

This method of extradition has saved a considerable amount of public money that would have been spent on the transportation of each of the detainees on separate flights. This extradition cost the police around € 7,000, while the cost of extraditing a person from the UK ranged from € 1,500 to € 2,000.

“The pandemic caused some inconvenience to extradition, so we had to decide how to speed up these processes.” Once again, we are convinced that we have reliable partners abroad with whom we can solve problems quickly enough. I would also like to sincerely thank the Lithuanian Armed Forces for their operational assistance in carrying out this unconventional operation, “says the Chief of Police.
