According to the service, a foreigner from Belarus who was cycling and dragging a suitcase with wheels from behind arrived in Lithuania last afternoon.
The man, who has a permanent residence permit in Belarus, said that he had sold an apartment in that country and was returning to pick up a car that he had left near the border post in Lithuania, which was going to travel to Germany.
After inspecting the man’s belongings, customs officials found two bags of yellowish powder under the lining of the suitcase. An initial drug identification test found heroin in the bags.
When officials found the drugs, the German citizen claimed that the suitcase did not belong to him and said that he had accepted a request from strangers to transport the goods across the border.
Customs forensics detained the man and launched a pre-trial investigation for smuggling and possession of large quantities of drugs.
The detainee was detained for three months by court order.
