Criminals lost an unprecedented invention: they lifted secret cargo from Belarus to Lithuania without a trace

On Monday before midnight, border guard officers Kapčiamiestis from the SBGS Varėna border team patrolled along the border with Belarus within the village of Pertak, Lazdijai district. On the Lithuanian side, a patrol route and a control route have been installed here.

In the dark, border guards found 4,000 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with special Belarusian stamps right next to the border. The smugglers are suspected to have left them to fend for themselves, to have just worked and to fear SBGS officials, who failed to carry the cargo to the depths of Lithuania.

Here, the border guards also found a self-made device, believed to have been designed to move contraband cargo from the territory of Belarus to the Lithuanian side. It consists of a massive metal plate placed on the floor. A metal tube with a bracket approximately 7 meters long is inserted. Could be used as a lever.

Kartis may have turned to Belarus through the tracking strip and the border line installed in Lithuania. Smugglers in Belarus apparently had to smuggle cigarettes at the end of the generation. His accomplices in Lithuania were able to move smokers across the border by twisting the air. The wall is not physically damaged here, nor are there any signs of its crossing.

This device is quick to assemble. Smugglers attached self-made braces to the metal base for easy carrying on their backs.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched at the SBGS Varėna border team regarding the illegal removal of property subject to excise duty. Such an offense is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to 8 years.

The device for cigarettes and smugglers is stored at the Kapčiamiestis border barrier.

In order not to leave traces of border violations when transporting cigarettes from Belarus, smugglers generally simply throw them from their state to Lithuania. Border guards have also identified cases where ropes lifted above the border line have been used for such transfers.

Where the border crosses Nerimi and Nemunas, there are often cases where cigarette boxes on the Belarusian coast are simply thrown with water in the hope that the current will take them to the Lithuanian side.
