V.Deveikienė assures that this was the most painful event of his life. The oldest says she still remembers how horrible it was at the time. However, the difficulties of her life did not end there: she wanted to be deported to Siberia.

“I hid, I got caught … After running away from home, I spent a night in the woods. It was very scary so I used to hear people at home later. Thank God there were those who accepted me and allowed me to hide ”Recalls V.Deveikienė.

Surviving the greatest hardships, Veronica did not expect her life to be affected by the quarantine and the rapidly spreading coronavirus. Although he tried to protect himself, during the second wave of the pandemic, he had just lived in a nursing home, which COVID-19 did not overlook; in December, V. Deveikienė became infected with the virus.

“It just came to our attention then. I asked God not to just die from this disease. Several of the women I know got infected and died, and I got sick quite easily,” says V. Deveikienė.

Several women I knew got infected and died, and I got sick pretty easily.

Verónica’s most severe were the first three days when she felt ill and had a fever. Later, the condition stabilized and the doctors, always repeating that V. Deveikienė would recover, encouraged her not to lose hope.

“There were two terrible things in life: the virus and the war. God knew what it would be like, if it would live or if it would end. The doctors said that if I survived for 10 days, I would start to recover. That was the case. Terrifying, which it was going on at the time it was very bad. I was talking about ceramics and I was hoping to recover … I still don’t know who brought me the virus, “says Veronika, who has been ill with COVID-19 for about a week.

At that time, V. Deveikienė could not be visited by her relatives and, although she was lacking, she was pleased with the extraordinary care of the doctors, who were always around when needed.

“The doctors treated me well, they took care of me, they gave me medicine, the nurses took great care of me. They came, they sat next to her, they talked, they asked me how I felt ”, Veronika is happy.

V. Deveikienė, who overcame the coronavirus, continues to smile, remembering how happy he was when he was informed that he had recovered. Veronica thinks maybe the prayers and constant kindness helped her win the fight.

“I prayed all the time. Also, in the past, with the kind of people I was with, I always helped them when I needed help. When I recovered, I did not walk, but flew in the dark. I was so happy,” recalls Veronika .

Veronica says that longevity does not depend on human will.

V.Deveikienė laughs that those around her constantly ask her how she managed to survive for a hundred years. Only Veronica does not know the secret and says that longevity does not depend on human will.

“As God gives, so it is. There are those who rule us from above. You need to love God and thank him always, and if you need something, ask for it. I never thought I would survive for so many years, it’s good that my head keeps working at least a little bit, ”laughs V. Deveikienė.
