The court made a similar decision regarding Ilya Salejus, a member of the Coordinating Council. Last Friday, the court dismissed a similar complaint against the arrest of Maxim Znak, a lawyer who was a member of the Coordination Council.

Kalesnikava’s lawyers intend to appeal Monday’s decision.

More than 50 people gathered to support M. Kalesnikava, they stood by the door of the courtroom. Representatives of diplomatic missions from various countries also came.

M.Kalesnikava, I. Salejus, and M.Znakas are in custody on charges of asking for actions that threaten national security.

The Belarusian law enforcement organizations have recognized them as political prisoners.

For more than a month, there have been unprecedented protests in Belarus over the presidential elections on August 9, which were declared the winners by Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994. The opposition and Western countries consider these elections to be rigged.

On August 18, supporters of Sviatlan Cichanouskaya, a former Belarusian presidential candidate, formed a Coordination Council to organize a peaceful transfer of power, but virtually all members of his presidency have been arrested or expelled from Belarus.

The Belarusian government considers the Constitutional Council to be an unconstitutional body.
