Coronavirus spreads among Maxima employees: infected in Kaunas, Šiauliai and Joniškis

Representatives of the Maxima retail chain note that they are currently unaware that more colleagues in the same Maxima stores are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 infection. Complete disinfection has been carried out in businesses where workers infected with coronavirus have worked.

“Yesterday, four more Maxima employees were diagnosed with coronavirus. All are treated at home. Employees who had close contact with colleagues who became ill with COVID-19 became isolated,” says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Department of Communication and Image of the Maxima retail chain.

Yesterday a COVID-19 infection was detected in Kaunas, Šiaurės ave. 8D, for an employee of the Maxima XX store. He was last at work on October 26. There was no close contact with buyers or other colleagues.

Two Šiauliai employees were infected with the coronavirus. The Maxima XX stores located at Tilžės str. 225, the employee last visited her workplace on October 27. She had no close contacts. Another COVID-19 employee works in a food workshop located at the Maxima XXX store, Aido str. 8. You last visited your workplace on October 29. A colleague who may have been in contact with a worker infected with COVID-19 became isolated.

The COVID-19 infection was also detected in another employee in Joniškis, where more illnesses were recorded. The last time the coronavirus-infected worker was at work was on November 1. There were no close contacts.

Maxima XX store in Joniškis, Upytės str. 19, additional measures have been introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 since last week. The store’s opening hours are shortened, the flow of shoppers is more strictly limited, and the premises are disinfected every night. Only those employees who tested negative for COVID-19 work and serve customers at this store. Staff are retesting for COVID-19.

A total of 79 Maxima workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, of whom 28 have fully recovered and returned to work. To date, 1,152 Maxima employees have been investigated for COVID-19. Currently, the test responses of 80 employees are still pending.

“Today, we meet extremely strict hygiene requirements: shopping carts, baskets and other miscellaneous surfaces are periodically sanitized, and fresh air circulation is increased for store ventilation. Employees are informed of additional recommendations to avoid direct contact with each other and to maintain a safe distance. We also encourage our employees to test for COVID-19 for prevention purposes in all municipalities that only organize such tests, “says E. Dapkienė.

Maxima has special coronavirus insurance for its current and future employees. Employees receive the necessary protective equipment: medical masks or safety shields, gloves, hand sanitizing liquids. Temperature is measured daily for Maxima employees. If employees feel unwell, have symptoms of a cold or the flu, they are asked to stay home.

Currently, the flow of shoppers entering the stores is limited in Lithuania. Shoppers are asked to keep a safe distance of 2 meters in stores, not to forget to wear protective masks, disinfect their hands and wear free disposable gloves, which can be found at the entrance. All Maxima stores have free access to a protective mask. Free face masks will be distributed until November 11.
