Construction of the first solar power plant in the Baltic countries has started in the upper basin of the Kruonis Accumulation Hydroelectric Power Plant (HAE), according to the state-owned energy group Ignitis Group.
According to her, last week the anchor blocks were lowered, to which the floats will be attached and solar modules will be installed in it. Testing of the 60 kW power plant is scheduled to be completed later this year.
Floating solar energy is the one that is developing the fastest and the growth of the installed capacity of this type of power plant is observed in the global market (…) It is expected that in 2022 the total installed capacity of this energy attack will reach almost the 5 GW globally, says the group on Facebook.
The plant will be upgraded by Ignitis, the electricity and gas provider managed by the group for 290,300 euros (VAT included), and its subcontractors are Tetas, Transventa Solar and Hidrotechniniai darbai. HAE is owned by Ignitis Production.
Ignitis Production stated that it wants to test how the solar power plant will work by integrating its energy into the Kruonis HPP activities, thus taking advantage of the synergy of solar energy and water.
