A conservative candidate for vice presidents of the Seimas, Jurgis Razmas, has already been appointed by the Seimas on Friday. Another designated representative of the opposition, the “employee” Andrius Mazuronis. Seimas president Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen promised to introduce four more alternate candidates to Seimas on Tuesday.

“The goal was for all factions to be represented on the Council of the Seimas, which is one of the most important institutions of the Seimas. <...> Seeing that our party also has a cohesive community, [siekta] that this representation would be as broad as possible, ”said G.Landsbergis, apparently considering that P. Saudargas, who represents the Christian wing in the party, is being proposed to the Vice-Presidents of the Seimas.

Mr. Saudargas himself declared during the vote that he expected the support of all Seimas factions.

“The Seimas must form the leadership, the committees, the factions as soon as possible, because the signs of the coronavirus have already appeared in the Seimas, and we do not know what will happen tomorrow, so we must start working as soon as possible and fight against the main challenges facing Lithuania, “said the politician.

Last week, the largest opposition faction of the Lithuanian Green and Peasants Union (LVŽS) appointed MP Aušrinė Norkienė as vice-presidents of the Seimas. He did not show up on Friday, although LVŽS expected him.

Seimas spokesperson A.Norkienė stated that she had not submitted the candidacy, as she would not have received much support from the Seimas members. Seimas president Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen asked the LVŽS to find another candidate, but the party did not change its mind.

If V.Čmilytė-Nielsen nominates A.Norkienė, TS-LKD will respect him, said G.Landsbergis.

“We really don’t have any complaints about delivery. If the Seimas spokesperson decides to nominate Ms. A. Norkienė, we respect her decision. He also had conversations with Mr. R. Karbauskis, perhaps with other factions. She decided. <...> If it is Ms A. Norkienė’s presentation, we will respect it, “said the Curator.

According to G. Landsbergis, the TS-LKD faction will vote freely on the deputies of the Seimas, although he added that there are different opinions about the candidates of the faction.

V.Čmilytė-Nielsen is expected to present the nominations of four Seimas vice-presidents to the Seimas on Tuesday. The “peasants” in the opposition offer A.Norkienė, the Social Democrats – Julius Sabatauskas, the ruling conservatives – as mentioned – P.Saudargas and R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, the Freedom Party – Vytautas Mitalas.

Voting for the candidates will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Statute of the Seimas, the head of parliament cannot have more than seven deputies. However, the coalition partners have agreed that there will be six, at least two of them must be representatives of the opposition.
