According to a press release, the prototype of the new paper bottle was developed in collaboration with researchers from the Coca-Cola Research and Development Laboratory in Brussels and the Paper Bottle Company (Paboco).
This company is developing technology that will help create 100 percent. Recyclable bottles made of sustainably sourced wood and with a bio-based inner layer that is impervious to liquids, CO2 and oxygen.
These bottles are suitable for liquid products such as carbonated and non-carbonated drinks or beauty products. The prototype bottle currently under development is produced with a paper cap and a plastic cap and a plastic inner layer. However, the main goal is to create a paper bottle that is completely recyclable like paper.
“This prototype that we present is a significant step in our efforts to create a paper bottle,” said Daniela Zahariea, director of technical supply chain and innovation at Coca-Cola Europe.
The first tests of this bottle and delivery to consumers are scheduled to take place already in the second quarter of this year, when Hungarian consumers will be offered to taste the herbal drink “Adez” in paper bottles.
The prototype for the paper bottle is 100 percent. recyclable (where technology allows) and is currently being developed with a paper wrap and a plastic cover and a plastic inner layer. The goal is to create a paper bottle that can be recycled as easily as paper.
