Today the first round pairs of the Citadel King Mindaugas Cup (KMT) have been revealed. The drawing ceremony, which was attended by the Lavrinovičiai brothers, took place at the LKL television studio in the capital.
BTV viewers were able to watch the ceremony directly during the long break from the match between Alytus “Dzūkija” and Kaunas “Žalgiris”.
The new and new Citadele KMT logo was also featured during the broadcast.
Before the draw, the teams were divided into two baskets. In first place were six teams from Betsafe-LKL, which occupied 5-10 places last season, and in second, six clubs from the National Basketball League (NKL).
The following couples will compete in the first stage of the KMT:
Jonava – Pasvalys Milk Stars
“Šilutė” – Alytus “Dzūkija”
Šakiai “Vytis” – Kėdainiai “Nevėžis-Optibet”
Klaipėda Neptūnas-Akvaservis – Šiauliai
Žalgiris-2 – Prienai CBet
Sūduva-Mantinga de Marijampolė – Juventus de Utena
The team is scheduled to play its first game on October 6 and 13. The NKL clubhouse seats, retaliation matches in the Betsafe-LKL team home arenas are planned for October 20-27.
The two winners of the pair will automatically advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament. These will be the teams that topped last season.
If all six Betsafe-LKL teams win in the first round of the KMT, Juventus (fifth place last season) and CBet (sixth place) will automatically advance to the quarterfinals.
The remaining four teams that win in the first round will meet in the second round. The four teams will be paired by lottery and will play two games at home and away.
In the quarterfinals, the four strongest clubs from the previous season will join the four teams that have passed the national team: Kaunas “Žalgiris”, Vilnius “Rytas”, Panevėžys “Lietkabelis” and Klaipėda “Neptūnas”.
The Citadele KMT final four will take place in 2021. February 13-14.
