At that time, vacationers who yearned for the sea were drawn to admire Palanga on the first day, when there were no restrictions. It tells the story of Lietuvos Rytas television reporter Elvya Sakalauskaitė-Laukevičienė.
Palanga welcomed vacationers
On Monday, March 15, after the lifting of traffic restrictions in 44 municipalities of the country, the first vacationers who had arrived in Palanga on Tuesday morning were already walking there.
Through the other, they said that they long for both the sea and Palanga itself. Some of them said that they had come from Kaunas for work purposes and that they had come to the complex especially to walk for another hour. Others came to the beach to quell the longing.
“We live close by, only 3 kilometers apart. We were sad because it was not possible to come to Palanga for so long, ”said the Samogitians.
“We were locked in the house like birds in a cage. And now at least we can escape, “the residents of Plungė rejoiced.
The residents of Palanga are also happy with the first vacationers. Supposedly, that only people come, that they rest by the sea. So much so that all the restaurants and bars in Palanga are now closed.
“It just came to our attention then. We want a busier Palanga, a greater flow of people,” said the people of Palanga.
Waiting for the abundance of guests
In the coastal region, Palanga is so far the only city for which movement restrictions have been lifted.
It will not be allowed to enter or leave Klaipėda and Neringa until the beginning of April due to the quarantine, so next weekend is in Palanga where a large number of vacationers are expected.
“For three months, the resort has been stagnant, nobody works anywhere. Naturally, the residents of Palanga also want to go back to work, to a full life.
Of course, that joy is fragile, it is good that we are reliving little by little. But, God forbid, you just don’t have the third wave of the pandemic. Everyone should be careful about infections, ”said Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus.
Open hotels
Tourism entrepreneurs are also preparing for the flow of vacationers. The entertainment complex near Palanga is completing final preparations.
According to Ričardas Jovaiša, director of the Holiday Park Hotel, the activity of the people has increased almost tenfold since March 15.
“We have received many inquiries. The most common question is whether the pool will work. But the government still does not allow the opening of basins, so we offer people the possibility of visiting public baths or water treatments in the medical sector as an alternative. ”Said R. Jovaiša.
According to Ingrida Valaitienė, president of the Palanga Hotel and Restaurant Association, 5 large accommodation facilities will be open in Palanga during the weekend. These are both large hotels and wellness companies, where sanatorium services are combined with rest in a way that responds to customer expectations.
Closed with calls
According to its director, Rasa Kmitienė, people from all over Lithuania called to call the Palanga Tourist Information Center as soon as the government announced the release of traffic restrictions.
“At the moment, we usually have to answer the question of whether it is really possible to come to Palanga. There are a lot of people calling and asking about it.
If before we received 10 to 20 calls a day, now we have twice as much. People don’t just ask themselves, they long for the sea, ”said R. Kmitienė.
Most of the companies that provide accommodation services in Palanga are expected to open their doors to vacationers after Easter.
