On Sunday, officers from the Pagėgiai Division of the Pagėgiai Border Team of the SBGS and the Pagėgiai Team of the Special Purpose Division, in cooperation with employees of AB Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, inspected a freight train from the port of Klaipėda to Belarus in Jonaitiškės train station in the Radviliškis district.

Border guards already had information that this shipment could carry illegal cargo. SBGS officers found 25,940 packages of Minsk Capital QS cigarettes marked with Belarusian excise marks in the shelters installed in a wagon.

The SBGS reported that this train was transporting fertilizers from Belarus to Klaipeda from Belarus. Border guards checked the line when it returned from the port city.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched at the Pagėgiai border team in relation to the illegal disposal of excise goods. SBGS officials continue to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
