On Thursday, Border Guard officers G. Žagunis from the SBGS Varėna Border Team, who were patrolling the village of Girdžiūnai, Šalčininkai District, found 3 packages wrapped in polyethylene in the waiting room. A state border protection zone is delimited near this area. The packages contained 1,500 Fest and Minsk Capital QS cigarette packages marked with Belarusian excise stamps.
G. Žagunis border guards remained in ambush. They soon noticed that a man was coming to explore this place. He did not suspect anything about the nearby border guards, so he grabbed the packages and tried to carry them deep into the country. SBGS officers arrested the smuggler from the subsequent ambush.
It turned out that he is a 48-year-old resident of the Šalčininkai district.
He faces a 1,000 fine for smuggling, and an investigation into the incident is underway. A Šalčininkai district resident was released after the survey. He received a summons to go to the G. Žagunis firewall.
