“The situation continues to be complicated and epidemiologically unfavorable (…), but the increase in the number of diseases is no longer as fast as a few weeks ago, when the number of diseases grew almost two or three times a week,” said L .Ašoklienė on LRT radio on Monday morning. .

“There are signs that the situation is stabilizing and it will only take some time for the numbers to start to decline,” said the epidemiologist.

To curb the spread of the coronavirus, quarantine was introduced in Lithuania on November 7. During the quarantine, cafes, bars and restaurants, sports clubs, prohibited events were closed, spectators were not allowed to enter sports competitions, and some students switched to distance education.

According to L. Ašoklienė, the results of the quarantine should start to show more clearly this week or next, but the rate of spread of the virus will largely depend on public behavior.

In the last week, an average of about 1,400 new coronavirus cases have been registered in Lithuania every day.
