Chaos in the Champions League game: the players left the pitch, Basaksehir is sanctioned and the PSG game will resume with the replacement of one of the referees

On Tuesday, the Champions League match between Saint-Germain in Paris and Basaksehir in Istanbul ended in chaotic fashion and just over halfway through the first half.

In the 16th minute, Basaksehir’s assistant coach Pierre Webo saw a red card in front of him and several players soon came to the referee.

It took the referee a while to find out what was going on here, until finally Turkish club player Demba Ba accused Romanian referee Sebastian Coltescu of racist remarks and left the team’s players in the 24th minute.

“You never tell this white man … why when you mention a black man, you have to tell this black man,” Demba Ba told the judge.

Shortly after the incident, a message with the words “No because of racism” appeared on the official Basaksehir team account on Twitter.

PSG also shared this rival message, adding: “After the referee showed a red card to the rival coach, the discussion between the players and staff of both teams continued. The Basaksehir players decided to go back to the dressing room, and PSG followed.

According to the Turkish media, Basaksehir refused to return to the match unless the fourth official is replaced.

UEFA has confirmed that the match will resume when a new referee is appointed.

“Following a possible incident involving the fourth official, the match has been suspended. After consultations with both teams, it was agreed that the match would resume when the fourth official was replaced. UEFA will investigate this episode in depth.”

Basaksehir’s team no longer has a chance to advance to either the Champions League or the European League playoffs, while PSG need at least a draw to advance to the next round.

PSG, Manchester United and RB Leipzig each had 9 points before today’s game, but the Man United team were 0-2 behind RB Leipzig after the first half.
